The 53rd Karlovy Vary IFF will host the world premiere of Miriam Lies, a Dominican Republic’s coming-of-age drama already well received in Guadalajara Construye pix-in-post and Ventana Sur’s Primer Corte films-in-rough-cut showcases.
The film directed by Natalia Cabral and Oriol Estrada is driven by a 14-year-old, Miriam, from a middle class world who meets her boyfriend in an internet chat while her mother is preparing her quinceañera birthday party, an event of social status to keeping up appearances. After she finds out her dreamy blue-eyed and maybe French boyfriend is black she will have to decide to tell her family he is not attending to the party.
Produced by Faula Films (Dominican Republic) and Mallerich Films (Spain), Miriam Lies is one of Latido’s latest acquisitions. We keep consolidating as the go-to sales agent for Latin American art films.
