Neo Western. Directed by Marc Recha
Another manifesto of how a Western film can be shot today and in the open landscapes of Cerdanya in a way that is both indebted and personal.
Ona's roughness, like her laconicism, flows with a smooth and restful cadence.
A spearhead of new Catalan cinema, Marc Recha is a regular at Cannes Festival where his work has been selected in competition. With his new film, he ventures into the Neo-Western genre in the style of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. It is a story set in la Cerdanya (one of the most beautiful regions in Catalonia), with the consequences of the War in the Balkans as a backdrop. The leading character is Sergi López (seen for the last time in PACIFICTION), winner of a Cesar, a European Film Award, and nominated four times for a Goya.
Ona lives peacefully with her teenage son in a quiet village of the Pyrenees where she works as a gardener, although her big dream is to pilot a tourist plane. One day, everything changes for Ona when some foreigners, a group of henchmen, arrive in the village and bring to light certain dark secrets of her life which she had forgotten about. She will then be compelled to face those secrets from the past once and for all.
