A musical along the lines of “Mamma Mia!”, co-produced between Spain and Italy, whose backbone are mega-hits of the singer Raffaella Carrà in the seventies and eighties. It tells the story of a beautiful, vital, and uninhibited dancer who aspires to succeed in the late Francoist Spain of the 70s and, to fulfill her dreams, must confront the rigidity, hypocrisy, machismo, and censorship that prevailed at the time. The film is a feast for the senses, with catchy songs and brilliant choreographies full of light and color. A superb and very sensual interpretation of Ingrid García-Jonsson (“Beautiful Youth”). Interestingly, Carrà herself stars in a cameo at the end of the film.
An infectiously joyful journey through the greatest hits of the incomparable Raffaella Carrà, My Heart Goes Boom! follows Maria, a bride who just fled her own wedding and whose dream was always to dance. As she brings colour to the grey Spain of the 1970s by becoming a starlet on the biggest TV musical, her quest for personal freedom will go hand in hand with the explosion of a long-time censorship imposed by the regime.
