Blending tragicomedy and grotesque humor, the film is openly inspired by the classic «Bienvenido, Mister Marshall» by Luis García Berlanga. When a newspaper reports that all the inhabitants of a small Cuban village with the surname Castiñeiras will receive a share of the substantial amount of money that some nuns deposited in an English bank in the 18th century, everyone starts living out their own particular fairy tale. Director Juan Carlos Tabío assembled an all-star cast from Cuban cinema: Jorge Perugorría, Vladimir Cruz, Mirtha Ibarra, Yoima Valdés, Paula Ali, and Enrique Molina for this film. The movie obtained the Special Jury Awards at the Cartagena de Indias and Mar del Plata Film Festivals.»
According to a newspaper article, more than 25.000 Cubans claim that they are the heirs to an unclaimed multi-million dollarfortune held in the coffers of a British bank. The movie takes place in a small imaginary town from the countryside, Yaragüey, where the Castiñeiras family find out that they may inherit a millionaire inheritance.The shock of the news destabilizes the family, which is completely dedicated to the reclamation procedures.
