WHY WE LOVE IT
A rare gem in director Gracia Querejeta’s filmography, this movie begins as a somewhat amiable comedy about a group of friends gathering at a countryside house to celebrate the 40th birthday of one of them. However, halfway through, it takes a radical turn into darker and more macabre humor when it is revealed that the guest of honor has won a 140-million-euro prize. This revelation brings out the darkest instincts of all the characters, as if we were witnessing a contemporary version of Erich von Stroheim’s classic ‘Greed.’ An all-star cast, featuring five Goya Award winners: Maribel Verdú, Antonio de la Torre, Nora Navas, Eduard Fernández, and Marián Álvarez.
SYNOPSIS
On her 40th birthday, Elia gathers together a few select relatives and friends at a luxury country house to tell them some extraordinary news: she has won a Jackpot of 140.000.000 €! From that moment onwards, as the guests become aware that Elia has come by 140 million Euros, the atmosphere becomes increasingly tense and what started off as shared happiness gradually transforms into greedy plotting to take Elia’s fortune.
