The debut film by director Violeta Salama proposes a whole ode to tolerance and coexistence, with the multiethnic and multicultural city of Melilla as the backdrop. Jews, Christians, and Muslims take center stage in a farce in which, on the occasion of her niece’s wedding, a mother with a somewhat sour character reunites with her daughter after five years of separation. A simple and sensitive film, full of humor, in which women are the absolute protagonists and in which the male universe is represented by Argentine actor Leonardo Sbaraglia.
Alegría does not acknowledge her Jewish roots. When she learns that her family is going to stay at hers in Melilla for her niece’s wedding, her life gets messy. Luckily, the Moroccan girl who helps her out at home and her best friend are always there for her. With the help of the two women, she will face all the surprising events caused by the wedding and the reunion with her daughter she didn’t see for 5 years.
