Drama . Directed by Carlos Marques-Marcet
Emotional and breathtaking sense of the story.
The only sadness that comes from “The End” here is that the film itself has concluded.
THEY WILL BE DUST makes LA LA LAND look like ‘Blah Blah Bland.’ Run, don’t walk to see this movie.
Carlos Marques-Marcet’s new film THEY WILL BE DUST was awarded with the Jury’s prize for Best Film at the Platform Section at the Toronto International Film Festival. It is set to be his most ambitious and mature work yet, confirming his talent as one of the top filmmakers in contemporary Spanish cinema. His debut film, 10,000 KM, was recognized with multiple awards at several festivals, including the Goya for Best New Director. It featured an outstanding cast, including actress Natalia Tena (GAME OF THRONES). This new film, co-written with Clara Roquet (whose debut as director LIBERTAD played at the Cannes Critic’s Week), embarks on an emotional journey, exploring themes of self-determination, finding beauty in everyday life, and navigating family bonds. It presents a heartfelt portrayal of life’s complexities and the decisions we face. With surprising musical numbers and standout performances from Alfredo Castro and Ángela Molina, the film shines as truly unique. The choreography for these numbers is by La Veronal, the prestigious dance company led by Marcos Morau (Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French Ministry of Culture in 2023).
When Claudia, a vibrant septuagenarian, is diagnosed with an incurable illness, she decides to end her days in a clinic in Switzerland. Flavio, her inseparable husband of over 40 years, feels unable to face life without her. Meanwhile, their daughter Violeta becomes a mediator between them while trying to clarify her own thoughts. The three embark on a fascinating and profound journey of love and self-discovery.
