The big surprise of the festival.
Great adaptation
The film captures the uneasy yet comforting sensation of returning home.
Álex Montoya's brilliant third film brought tears to the eyes of the Malaga Festival audience with a plot that highlights the ease of staying alive.
Festival darling directed by Álex Montoya (award-winning short filmmaker at Sundance) as an adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name by Paco Roca (Author of WRINKLES), whose rights were sold to France, Germany, Italy, the United States, and South Korea, among others. Through long shots with parallel conversations (edited by Jaime Rosales’ regular collaborator), a naturalistic light reminiscent of the Dardenne’s, and a careful acting work led by David Verdaguer (recent winner of the Goya for Best Leading Performance for JOKES & CIGARETTES) LA CASA serves as a metaphor for that place where each viewer can see their family relationships reflected.
After the death of their father, three siblings return to the family home where they grew up. They intend to sell it and follow their very different paths. But as memories surface in every corner, a fear of getting rid of the past and an impulse to reunite grows in them. As a last tribute to their father, there may still be time to make up for lost time and the house may witness new stories.
