Debut as director of Jonás Trueba, son of the Oscar-winning Fernando Trueba. A “not-so-romantic” romantic comedy in which a young man tries to forget a girl but is unable to do so because every song he listens to reminds him of her. With a nostalgic and melancholic tone, the movie brings to mind his father’s first film: ‘Ópera prima,’ and contains echoes of the New Wave cinema, primarily Truffaut and Rohmer, as well as the Woody Allen universe. An excellent and highly evocative selection of music in the soundtrack.
EVERY SONG IS ABOUT ME is a romantic comedy, but without “boymeets girl.” The premise would rather be “boy tries to forget girl”, something more difficult to go through, especially when the girl that you just left is the main character of each of your memories and you think that all the songs are written about you.
