Adapted from Domingo Vilar’s novel of the same name, with a screenplay co-written by the author himself and filmmaker Felipe Vega, Gerardo Herrero returns to one of his favorite genres, the thriller. The intrigue begins with the discovery of a sailor’s body on the beach. Everything points to it being an accident, but a police inspector is unconvinced and starts to investigate, despite the reluctance of the locals. Narrated in a classic style and filled with sharp dialogues, the film benefits from the magic and mystery that emanate from the region where it unfolds, Galicia, in the northwest of Spain.
One morning, the body of a sailor is found lying on the beach, washed in by the tide. With no witnesses or any sign of the dead man’s boat, Inspector Leo Caldas begins immersing himself in the town’s seafaring atmosphere as he endeavours to shed light on the crime. He finds himself among men and women who prefer not to reveal their suspicions to him. But a sudden discovery sets him off in an unexpected direction.
